The BEIS Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator (IEEA)

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) IEEA is supported through its Net Zero Innovation Portfolio and funds industrial scale demonstrations of novel technologies with the potential to reduce energy consumption, maximise resource efficiency and cut carbon emissions.

It is designed to support partnerships between developers of efficient technologies and industrial companies willing to trial innovations on-site. It is open to projects from all UK industry sectors that can demonstrate either a novel technology (targeting Technology Readiness Level 5-8), or the use of an established technology in a novel way.

Applications for Phase 4 will close on 19 September 2022

Do you have an energy or resource efficiency technology concept that is ready to be demonstrated in industry? Are you at a forward-thinking industrial site that could be interested in demonstrating an innovative technology that will reduce your energy/resource costs? If the answer to either of these is 'yes', then the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator could help you. A further £8 million is being made available to support exciting innovation projects.

Attend a stakeholder clinic

Book some dedicated time with the Carbon Trust, Jacobs and/or KTN experts to discuss your potential projects, the scope of the competition, how to apply for funding, the eligibility criteria, potential project partners, the level of support available and much more.

The programme is managed by the Carbon Trust with support from Jacobs and KTN. It represents a unique opportunity for UK technology developers to bring their innovations to market, and to prove their technology works at scale in a production environment.

"The great benefit of being part of IEEA is that customers can actually come and see a full scale piece of hardware in operation, which really convinces them it can work for them.”
Mark Hardiman, Chief Executive of LAT Water Limited, IEEA phase 1 participant
"The incubation support has been a fabulous addition to an R,D&D programme which we haven't experienced in the past. That brought about an opportunity to introduce some business model innovation.”
Andrew Miles, Matrix Moulding Systems, IEEA phase 2 participant

Funding innovation

The IEEA programme is part of the BEIS Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), a £1 billion fund looking to accelerate the commercialisation of low-carbon technologies, systems and business models in power, buildings, and industry. £8 million in funding is available to fund demonstration projects through phases 3 and 4 of the IEEA programme projects.

The BEIS IEEA is delivered by the Carbon Trust with support from Jacobs and KTN.
