The Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator (IEEA)
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero IEEA was supported through its Net Zero Innovation Portfolio and funded industrial-scale demonstrations of novel technologies with the potential to reduce energy consumption, maximise resource efficiency and cut carbon emissions.
It was designed to support partnerships between developers of efficient technologies and industrial companies willing to trial innovations on-site. It was open to projects from all UK industry sectors that could demonstrate either a novel technology (targeting Technology Readiness Level 5-8), or the use of an established technology in a novel way.
The programme has been managed by the Carbon Trust with support from Jacobs and Innovate UK Business Connect. It has represented a unique opportunity for UK technology developers to bring their innovations to market, and to prove their technology works at scale in a production environment.

"The great benefit of being part of IEEA is that customers can actually come and see a full scale piece of hardware in operation, which really convinces them it can work for them.”
Mark Hardiman, Chief Executive of LAT Water Limited, IEEA phase 1 participant
"The incubation support has been a fabulous addition to an R,D&D programme which we haven't experienced in the past. That brought about an opportunity to introduce some business model innovation.”
Andrew Miles, Matrix Moulding Systems, IEEA phase 2 participant

Funding innovation
The IEEA programme was part of the Department for Net Zero and Energy Security's Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), a £1 billion fund looking to accelerate the commercialisation of low-carbon technologies, systems and business models in power, buildings, and industry.
The IEEA has been delivered by the Carbon Trust with support from Jacobs and Innovate UK Business Connect.
